MADISON: Navitus Health Solutions, a full-service pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), announced that its Board of Directors recently ratified the selection of David Fields to serve as President and CEO on a permanent basis.

“Navitus has experienced tremendous growth over the years and is well positioned for greater success,” said Kris Zimmer, Chairman of the Navitus Board of Directors. “I can’t think of anyone better to lead the organization into the future. David is a proven leader with the unique ability to cast a vision and rally people together to achieve the goal. His vision for how Navitus can serve as an alternative to traditional PBMs and drive down costs to make prescriptions more affordable for everyone is one that will propel the company forward as it works to meet evolving health care needs,” said Zimmer.

Fields has been serving as Navitus’ Interim President and CEO for more than a year. In this capacity, he continued the expansion of the organization’s footprint and led the minority partner selection process that brought in Costco Wholesale as a minority owner, while simultaneously serving as President of Dean Health Plan in a time of significant strategic diversification and growth.

“Navitus is one of those rare companies that’s truly disrupting the industry and actively helping ensure that people across the nation have access to affordable prescription drug coverage,” said David Fields, incoming President and CEO. “I couldn’t be more honored to be chosen to lead the company. With the industry demand for greater transparency and affordability, we have a tremendous opportunity ahead to expand our reach and help ensure our disruptive business model becomes the industry standard,” said Fields.

Fields first joined SSM Health as President of Dean Health Plan in 2018, bringing more than 30 years of experience to the position. Prior to this role, he served as Executive Vice President of Markets at Blue Shield of California, a 4-million-member, non-profit health plan where he was responsible for the management and performance of the company’s members and more than $20 billion in annual revenue. Before joining Blue Shield, he served as Senior Vice President and President of Aetna’s Mid-America Region, covering more than 14 states and 2 million members.

Fields also served as Senior Vice President at Coventry Healthcare where he had oversight over multiple states and across multiple product lines. In addition, he has held many other executive leadership roles at health plans across the nation, including Wellpoint and Humana. Fields has also served on a number of boards, including the American Heart Association, American Red Cross and Alliance of Community Health Plans. Fields earned an undergraduate accounting degree from the University of Louisville and an Executive Education from Duke University and Harvard University.

Navitus Health Solutions is owned by SSM Health and Costco Wholesale Corporation and serves as a full pass-through pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) and industry alternative to traditional models.
