KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has recovered paracetamol raw material worth $0.2 million from a vehicle parked at the truck stand of Pak International Goods Transport Company at West Wharf.
Paracetamol is restricted to be imported in Pakistan as per Import Policy Order. However, these goods can be imported by pharmaceutical companies after obtaining special permission and quota allocation by concerned ministry and departments.
These goods attract Customs duty at the rate of 20 percent if imported.
Information was passed through Director I&I Irfan Jawaid that smuggled pharmaceutical raw materials were present at a truck stand at West Wharf Road.
Superintendent ASO Irshad Shah along with his team raided the truck stand and recovered 80 bags of paracetamol raw material of 25.2kg each. Examination of the goods found that these were meant to be transported to Afghanistan under transit trade, as Afghanistan was printed on the bags.
These goods came from Lahore in a bilty by one Bilal to Basit in Karachi.
According to bilty, there were 94 bags, 14 bags were delivered somewhere on the instructions of Basit. Further investigation is underway.
Director Irfan Jawaid appreciated Irshad Shah and advised to investigate the case and detect the entire ring involved in this business.
