KARACHI: Superintendent SIU of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi Dost Muhammad has approached Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) complaining against the biased attitude of Advisor to FTO Shahid Ahmad in a complaint filed by a money laundering accused. [the_ad id=”31605″]According to details SIU recently detected a mega scam being committed by a group of unscrupulous elements for money laundering and evasion of government revenue. Large sums of foreign exchange were transferred from Pakistan under the garb of imports but no consignments against these transfers ever arrived.
One of the accused is Muhamad Abdullah of M/s Steel Vision Pvt Ltd. SIU intercepted two consignments arrived from South Korea in the name of M/s Steel Vision, however the actual importer and owner is M/s Zubair Steel Karachi, which paid the foreign exchange amounting to $477,665. However, M/s Steel Vision with mutual conspiracy of M/s Zubair Steel arranged manifestation of the cargo in their name through tampering the relevant import documents and then filed GDs for transportation of the goods to KEPZ.
Abdullah of M/s Steel Vision patronized by Customs officers filed series of complaints and petitions against the department. One such complaint was filed with FTO, which Advisor to FTO Shahid Ahmad is handling. It may be mentioned here that all matters relating to the aforesaid case are sub-judice before Sindh High Court.
Shahid Ahmad, ignoring all the questions of laws and evident fraud committed by the accused, is favoring Abdullah of M/s Steel Vision in a sub judice case.
Dost Muhammad submitted that Advisor Shahid Ahmad has been threatening the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi of dire consequences, if his recommendations favoring a habitual culprit are no followed.
Dost Muhammad in his complaint has prayed to the FTO to restrain Advisor Shahid Ahmad from proceeding in the complaint filed by M/s Steel Vision and decide the complaint himself on merits, which is not maintainable merely on the basis of jurisdiction.
