ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs on Friday has accorded the approval to enhance the number of ships in Pakistan Shipping Corporation (PSC) and for that two new ships will be added to the fleet.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi gave a detailed briefing about the working of the ministry and its attached departments and important decisions were taken related to fishing and shipping during the meeting.

The minister informed the committee that local fisherman would be preferred for deep sea fishing and for that an institution would be established to train them professionally. He said that his ministry was working to make Pakistan shipping system online with, which people would be able to get their license at home. [the_ad id=”32940″]He said the previous fishing policy is being revised and new policy is being made addressing the issues of Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim, Fisheries and Gwadar Port Authority.

Ali Haider Zaidi told the committee that contracts of Port Qasim Authority and Karachi Port Trust are also being reviewed, night navigation at port Qasim has started and it is another achievement of the present government that two LNG ships are being accommodated at one time.

The Committee lauded the efforts of the Minister and assured their support in resolving the issues.

The Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the budget 2019-20 was presented. The Committee endorsed all the ongoing schemes and future schemes presented and gave its nod of approval to the sum of money required for the schemes.
