KARACHI: Customs Court has directed MCC Appraisement East to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations of a clearing agent Sharjeel Jamal that employees at Customs Appraisement had formed a nexus with unscrupulous elements causing loss to the tune of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.

Sharjeel Jamal in his complaint before the Court had submitted that officers/officials were patronizing influential people in evading government revenue and even when several cases were detected no FIRs were lodged against such elements.

Jamal noted that law enforcement agencies were only arresting poor people while big fished were being facilitated taking false advantage of law.

In his complaint, Jamal said there was sufficient material evidence on record which showed that certain customs employees were playing criminal role in providing protection to wrongdoers and were involved in corruption at large scale.

Court has directed MCC Appraisement East to submit a detailed report in this regard within a week.
