KARACHI: Customs Intelligence (enforcement) Karachi has lodged an FIR against an important for violating provisions of Import Policy Order and submitting fake certificates to circumvent the provisions.

A credible information was passed on by the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Islamabad that M/s. MR Enterprises Karachi is involved in import and clearance of Printed Plastic Rolls having brand of edible products from United States in the garb of Printed/Misprinted plastic films waste scrap by submitting fake PSI certificate in sheer violation of Import Policy Order.

Customs I&I Islamabad blocked online a consignment having declaration of imported goods as Printed/Misprinted plastic film waste scrap imported from United-States by above named importers.

The consignment was cleared/assigned to gate staff from MCC Port Qasim, Karachi which was assessed at value Rs.0.896 million and on payment of duty/taxes totaling Rs0.442 million.

The consignment was re-examined by the staff of Directorate General, Regional office, Karachi, which was found to be comprised of Printed Plastic Rolls having brand of edible products i.e. “Cheestrings spaghetti, Ficello spaghetti, Cheestring starwars cheese milk bars etc”.

It may be mentioned here misprinted plastic/paper scrap having brand of edible products are importable only in completely cut into pieces form so that no piece contains the complete brand name.

However, complete Printed Plastic Rolls, having brand of edible products i.e. “Cheestrings spaghetti, Ficello spaghetti. Cheestring starwars cheese milk bars etc., have been found contained in the above mentioned consignment which can be used for packing of edible products after clearance from the Customs. As such the same are not importable in the forms of complete roles as per condition in Import Policy Order.

Further, in order to meet IPO condition, the importer uploaded in Weboc system PSI Certificate purportedly issued by M/s. Bureau Veritas. However, the PSI certificate was found to be fake and forged.

FIR has been lodged and investigations are underway.
