KARACHI: MCC Port Qasim has recovered an amount of Rs6.969 million from M/s Pakistan Mobile Communication (Mobilink), which was evaded through mis-classification of imported goods.

The company imported certain goods and declared the same to be cellular infrastructure equipment and sought clearance under PCT 8415.9029 attracting customs duty of 15 percent and additional customs duty of 1.0 percent.

Upon examination the goods were found to be high powered air cooled condenser, air conditioning unit with accessories and refrigerant etc.

The assessment group determined PCT 8415.8200 as the appropriate heading for the imported goods, which attracts customs duty of Rs20 percent, RD of 15 percent.

The difference between declared duty and assessed duty comes to Rs6.969 million, which has been recovered from M/s Pakistan Mobile Communication.

Collector Pott Qasim Mukarram Jah and Additional Collector Nayyar Shafique are maintaining strict check on revenue leakage.

Appraising officer Khurram Rafique detected the case while PA Tariq Aziz and Appraiser Saeed Soomro confirmed the classification.
