KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has decided to release the liquor consignments imported by M/s Exalo and M/s Qatar Airways.
Transparency International Pakistan has been complaining to Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) on cases of harassment of public, importers and even diplomats by FBR officers.
Karachi Customs had objected on two consignments of liquor imported by M/s Exalo and M/s Qatar Airways on which FTO had recommended to FBR to release the consignments and also to take action against the officers for maladministration.
The above-mentioned two imports have incurred demurrage and other detention charges to the tune of Rs 2.0 million so far.
Transparency International in a letter to FTO informed that Chairman FBR had failed to perform his duty in implementing the presidential orders, despite the Presidency has sent three reminders to FBR.
Secretary, Ministry of Commerce also took serious view of corrupt practices of FBR and requested the Chairman FBR to resolve the issue urgently and to take action against the responsible officers for their corrupt practices.
