Karachi: In a strategic move to enhance the efficiency and integrity of the newly implemented Faceless Customs Assessment (FCA) system, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced the reassignment of two high-profile officers to the Facilitation Group, an integral unit attached to the Central Appraising Unit (CAU).
Appraising Officer Ilyas Gichki (BS-16) has been transferred to the Ports Facilitation Group, while Appraising Officer Arif Ali Shahzad Qureshi will join the ODT Facilitation Group. Both officers bring with them a wealth of experience and expertise that is expected to play a pivotal role in overseeing the processing of the FCA.
The Facilitation Group functions as a watchdog, tasked with ensuring the smooth operation and accountability of the FCA system. This system, aimed at reducing corruption and enhancing transparency in customs assessments, is part of a broader initiative by the FBR to modernize customs procedures, facilitate trade, and secure government revenue.
The appointment of such high-profile officers underscores the importance of the Facilitation Group in the FBR’s efforts to streamline the FCA system. By assigning experienced and competent officers to these critical positions, the FBR aims to instill confidence in the trade community and ensure the successful implementation of this innovative assessment process.
The FCA system represents a significant shift towards digitalization and automation in customs procedures, eliminating the need for physical interaction between traders and customs officials. This move is expected to reduce opportunities for malpractices and enhance the overall efficiency of customs operations.
