KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs (Exports) at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, Karachi, has intensified its efforts for the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS) Audit, recovering millions of rupees. Overall, more than Rs. 50 million has been recovered during the current financial year from the EFS Audit.
Recently, a stock audit was conducted for the Export Oriented Unit (EOU) M/s Pro Textile, following an Office Order by Collector Saadia Sheeraz.
The audit, supervised by ADC EFS Ghulam Hyder Mahesar and DC EFS Muhammad Omer Latif, revealed evaded duties and taxes amounting to Rs. 40.16 million from M/s Pro Textile.
M/s Pro Textile, Karachi, was granted an EOU License for duty-free importation of raw materials and machinery, intended solely for export purposes. However, the audit discovered that 45.5 MT of imported nylon mesh net fabric was missing from the premises and not used in exports. The value of the missing goods was calculated at Rs. 82.13 million, with duties and taxes amounting to Rs. 41.65 million. The Collectorate swiftly recovered the full amount from the licensee.
M/s Pro Textile misused the concessionary EOU regime, attempting to evade government revenue. A contravention case has been filed for penal action under the relevant rules and laws.
This operation is part of the Collectorate’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance and recover evaded duties and taxes.
