KARACHI: In accordance with the Government of Pakistan’s policy against smuggled goods and based on credible information received by the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement in Karachi, an operation was conducted with the assistance of Sindh Rangers and Sindh Police on the night of July 5-6, 2024, at Fast Oil Baloch Filling Station, Northern Bypass, Karachi.
During the operation, more than 55,000 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel were recovered, which had entered the country illegally without paying the necessary duties and taxes.
Upon arrival at the site, the customs team encountered 4-5 Mazda vehicles delivering the smuggled diesel to the filling station. Shortly after, around 100 unknown individuals began pelting stones at the customs team, allowing the Mazdas carrying the smuggled diesel to flee.
The situation was brought under control after the arrival of Sindh Rangers and Police and the recovery of the diesel from the underground storage facility commenced. The diesel was transferred to the Collectorate’s warehouse in five rented oil tanker vehicles for detailed examination and further legal proceedings.
The market value of the recovered diesel is approximately Rs 15 million, and an FIR is being lodged against the culprits in the Customs Court.
