Karachi: The Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Enforcement (South) of Pakistan Customs, in collaboration with Brand Protection (Pvt) Limited, organized an awareness-cum-training seminar on IPR enforcement at the Customs Academy of Pakistan in Karachi on Monday.
The seminar was aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the customs officers and other stakeholders on the legal aspects and best practices of IPR enforcement at the borders. The seminar was attended by senior officers of Pakistan Customs, advocates, consultancy firms, representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), and other relevant agencies.
Ms. Mona Mehfooz, Director of IPR Enforcement (South), in her presentation, highlighted the importance of customs enforcement in protecting the rights of the legitimate owners of intellectual property and preventing the entry of counterfeit and pirated goods into the country. She also shared some of the major cases of IPR violation detected by her directorate.
Ms. Neelofar Shahzad, Director of IPR Enforcement (North), gave a presentation on the international law and legal cases related to IPR enforcement. Ms. Irum Haqbool Aamir, Director General of IPR Enforcement, emphasized the importance of awareness about IPR and informed the audience that Pakistan Customs is committed to protect IPR at the borders and looks forward to coordinated efforts by all stakeholders.
Mr. Yaqoob Makoo, Chief Collector of Enforcement, shared his experiences and emphasized that IPR, though a new law, is now being implemented and Pakistan Customs follows the best international practices. Mr. Wajid Ali, Director General of Transit Trade, Mr. Ashhad Jawwad, Chief Collector of Appraisement (South), Mr. Muhammad Sadiq, Chief Collector of Exports, Karachi, Collector Appraisement West Irfan Wahid, Collector Appraisement East Jameel Baloch, Collector Port Qasim Jameel Nasir and other collectors and senior officers also graced the occasion with their presence.
The seminar, organized by Additional Director IPR Amjad Rajper, ended with a certificate distribution and a vote of thanks by Ms. Mona Mehfooz, Director of IPR Enforcement (South), Karachi.
