The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) of Customs in Gwadar, along with Frontier Corps (FC), intercepted two passenger buses at Khuzdar and recovered smuggled goods worth Rs 49 million on Friday.
The seized items included 280 bags of gutka / pan parag (1.4 million pouches) and 185 bags of betel nuts (2.2 tonnes), which were being transported to Karachi.
The operation was conducted on the basis of information passed by Director I&I Moin Afzal to Additional Director Majid Gaad. An Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) team led by Muhammad Sadiq carried out the night checking and made the seizures.
DG I&I Faiz Ahmed appreciated the performance of the staff and said that I&I Gwadar has increased vigilance and strengthened intelligence network to curb smuggling activities in the region.
He also acknowledged the support of COAS General Asim Munir, who is taking personal interest in the ongoing anti-smuggling and anti-money laundering drive in the country. He said that all the law enforcement and security agencies are fully cooperating with Customs in this regard.
