QUETTA: Khuzdar Customs has launched a rigorous crackdown on smuggling. The lucrative smuggling of sugar has attracted a significant number of people in this dirty business, and they are employing all the available channels and resources.

Passenger coaches between Karachi and Quetta have also joined the wagon and large quantity of sugar is being smuggled from Karachi to Baluchistan through these passenger buses, which has caused an artificial shortage of the commodity in the country jacking up the prices.

In line with the policy of federal government, Collector Khuzdar Customs Imran Bukhari and Deputy Collector Rana Umair have tightened vigilance on RCD highway. Large quantity of sugar which was being transported to Baluchistan without the NOC was seized. During one week, Khuzdar Customs recovered 118 tons of sugar.

Khuzdar Customs has developed a comprehensive system to verify the NOCs and invoices issued by provincial and district administrations on real time basis, which has significantly reduced the smuggling of edible commodities.

Moreover, six NCP vehicles and other smuggled goods were also seized. The value of the seized goods comes to millions of rupees.
