KARACHI: The High Court of Sindh has granted a 10-day remand of three accused including Bilal Qadri, Muhammad Furqan and Muhammad Faizan, as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) advances the investigation in the case relating to involvement of Customs Enforcement officers/officials in organized smuggling.

According to FIA, the arrested accused have given valuable information regarding the organized smuggling of betel nut. The consignments of betel nut were cleared through clearing agent.

According to details, the FIA arrested Customs official at Karachi airport with a lot unexplained money and gold. During interrogation, Customs officials confessed that they and other officers in Karachi used to collect monthly bribe/illegal gratification from the smugglers under the guise of speed money.  

Certain officials are under police custody while officers including Saquif Saeed and Aamir Thaem have secured bail before arrest.

Investigations have found one Imran Noorani as the mastermind of the entire smuggling ring running under the patronage of reputed Customs officers.
