LAHORE: Customs Intelligence, Lahore (I&I) arrested an imposter impersonating Customs Assistant Director (AD) along with smuggled / tampered Toyota Prius car bearing Customs Intelligence Lahore’s secret registration number in an intelligence-based operation.
A credible information had been received that a smuggled / tampered Toyota Prius Car bearing Customs Intelligence Lahore’s secret registration number LWN-8569 (Green colored plate) is plying in the vicinity of Lahore.
The Anti Smuggling wing of Customs Intelligence, Lahore conducted a targeted intelligence based operation and apprehended the aforesaid impugned vehicle near Ravi Motorways Toll Plaza, Lahore. The car was found to be smuggled / non-duty paid / tampered.
The occupant / owner of the impugned vehicle was Ali Ahsan S/o Muhammad Makki R/o House No. 14, Street No. 23, Safdar Street, Mohallah Rehman pura, Lahore. He was also in possession of fake letter heads of Customs Intelligence. The accused Ali Ahsan allegedly was impersonating himself as Assistant Director Customs to hoodwink different law enforcement agencies by using fake green colored registration plates on smuggled vehicles.
FIR No. 10/2023 dated 01.06.2023 has been lodged against the accused for being in possession of a smuggled vehicle and physical remand has been obtained from Special Customs Court. During investigations, it has been unearthed that he has deep nexus with an organized gang dealing in the smuggled vehicles and efforts are underway to arrest further accused persons involved and to bust the racket. The value of seized vehicle is 5 million PKR. A separate complaint with Police is also being lodged for cheating, fraud and using fake number and documents Under Section 420 and other relevant provisions of the P.P.C.
Mr. Faiz Ahmad Chadher, Director General has issued strict directives to handle such nefarious elements with an iron fist. Earlier, Customs Intelligence Lahore had arrested several accused persons on pretext of impersonating themselves as Customs Intelligence Officers / Inspectors and this arrest is also a continuation of the same policy.
