PESHAWAR: Customs Enforcement Peshawar has seized large number of foreign origin used and new pistols, which were being into Pakistan from Afghanistan under the garb of tomatoes.

An information was received through Chief Collector Muhammad Saleem to Collector Irfan-ur-Rehman regarding concealment of foreign origin arms in specially designed cavity of cargo vehicles entering Torkham from Afghanistan.

The Customs Staff was accordingly alerted and increased the vigilance and checking of vehicles entering Pakistan. A Mercedes Benz Truck loaded with fresh tomatoes, entered Import Terminal.

The said vehicle was intercepted before scanning. Zia Ur Rahman, Inspector Customs, along with Saddiq Akbar, Superintendent Customs and other Customs Staff searched the said vehicle which led to the recovery of F/o Old and Used Pistols with magazine (Beretta and Smith & Wesson brands).

The Driver Zaman Khan Shinwari failed to produce any legal documents on the spot and was taken into custody along with vehicle, tomatoes and pistols. The case being sensitive and technical in nature warranted expert/technical opinion on the recovered pistols as per established procedures.
