QUETTA: I&I Quetta seized large quantity of smuggled goods and lodged FIR against Shah Khalid, Yar Muhammad Brohi and Ramzan Achakzai.
Information of was passed through Director Intelligence & Investigation-Customs Quetta, Naveed Iqbal to Deputy Director Fahad Bashier that huge quantity of smuggled miscellaneous goods would be transported from Iran border to Quetta by a recognized gang.
Accordingly a special team was constituted of officials of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs, Quetta, led by Intelligence Officer Hamid Habib, which intercepted buses loaded with foreign origin miscellaneous smuggled goods. The man on steering seat introduced himself as Shah Khalid.
When the Customs staff along with the seized bus and goods reached near Daringar Bazar Qabristan Area, 8 to 10 persons came in two Toyota Corolla X Cars and stopped the buses and official vehicles. The staff of Directorate identified one person as Ramzan Achakzai. The attackers tried to snatch the buses loaded with goods and resorted to firing.
Getting aware of the situation, Director General I&I Faiz Ahmed contacted Brigadier Ghazanfar of FC and sought assistance. Upon rapid response of staff of Directorate and FC, the attackers failed to snatch the loaded buses.
However, the drivers fled away with the attackers. One person from attackers namely Baig Muhammad S/o Muhammad Umar was arrested and handed over to Levies Thana Daringar, Mastung.
The buses along with loaded goods were brought to the Aryana warehouse, Quetta, for further probe.
To ascertain any manipulation, alteration, tainting or forgery exercised on the chassis, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, Quetta, has also been requested to conduct chemical examination of the chassis plate of the seized vehicle, reply is still awaited.
The seized goods include green tea, blankets, tyres, wool cloth, cloth, Indian gutka and cigarettes. The total value of seized goods and buses comes to Rs115 million approximately.
