KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh ordered provisional release of tissue paper in jumbo rolls imported by Health & Hygiene Products subject to securing of 24 per cent Regulatory Duty (RD) imposed recently.
The bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mrs Kausar Sultana Hussain earlier heard Dr Shahab Imam and Rana Sakhawat advocate appearing for the petitioner company who argued that imported goods are intermediary medical goods which are processed and mostly used in hospitals. The same are sold in market at reasonable rates lower than market rates. It was further contended that imposition of RD has rendered their business incompetitive. They further argued that RD was imposed by amending an SRO 966 (1) of 2022.
The bench was also prayed to order provisional release of goods on securing disputed amount of RD in shape of Pay Order before Nazir of SHC. The bench ordered preadmission notices to respondents for Sept 19 while allowed request for provisional release as prayed.
