KARACHI: In a successful bid to foil an attempt to export narcotics concealed in general cargo, collectorate of Customs Exports Karachi under the leadership of Collector Syed Asad Raza Rizvi and under the supervision Additional Collector Rizwan Bashir has made a seizure of ICE/Methephetamine worth Rs470 million.

Brief facts of the case are that M/s. Qtinity, Khayaban-e-Mujahid DHA Phase 5, Karachi electronically filed a Goods Declaration destined to M/S Karadeniz SPS in Melbourne, Australia consisting of two containers through their authorized Clearing Agent M/s Al Kasib, and declared the description of the goods as Salt under PCT Heading 2501.0010, with declared value of $37796.9410. The WeBOC system allowed loading under yellow channel on the basis of profile of the exporter.

But keeping in view the risky nature of the goods i.e salt and destination i.e Australia, same was put for examination by Assistant Collector PICT Rabel Khokhar.

Accordingly, the containers were arranged for examination at PICT yard. This exercise led to the recovery of 1355 corrugated cartons. The recovered cartons were opened one by one which yielded the recovery of assorted brand/packing Himalayan Pink Salt from each carton weighing 500 Grams. The recovered pouches were further opened and checked one by one. During this exercise some pouches were found stuffed with narcotics substance.

A thorough examination of the consignment was conducted by Examination officer Shahzad Bhatti. During examination of consignment, the team of Exports Examination PICT has effected a seizure of narcotics (47 kg ICE).

One of the main accused, prima facie master mind in this case, has been arrested and produced before the court for remand. Further investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, Collector Asad Raza Rizvi has formed a team led by Assistant Collector Hameer Khan to pursue the information obtained from the arrested accused Fida Muhamad, so that others involved in this heinous crime could be arrested.
