KARACHI: The strict approach followed by the Customs Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh, seeking implementation of decisive and land mark judgments in field has lessened the burden on the court.
The court in previous weeks asked the customs to implement a judgment known as Danish Jehangir case. The judgment paves way for release of imported goods provisionally while dispute over valuation is pending. As a result of implementation, the importers are facilitated and their consignments detained for dispute over valuation are being released provisionally on securing disputed amounts under bank guarantee or pay orders.
This lead to the importers withdrawing cases filed before HC or in another case they do not press the petitions filed over valuation dispute (Section 25-D).
Now only new issues and petitions with new facts are being entertained under reduced pressure of work.
