QUETTA: Army personnel of 40AK HAT BN seized large quantity of urea, which was being smuggled to Afghanistan.
On the instructions of Colonel Qamar Abbas, Army men led by Captain Ihtesham, however, handed over the seized goods to Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta insetad of Customs Preventive Quetta.
Sources said Army did not have trust on Customs Preventive Quetta, because these goods had crossed three checkposts manned by Customs Preventive, and reached the friendship gate.
The seized goods include 440 bags (50kg each) of DAP Fertilizer; 640 bags (20kg each) and 440 urea big bags (50kg each). The approximate market value of the seized goods comes to Rs10.08 million.
Now, I&I Quetta will investigate this case. On the instructions of Director Muhammad Ismail, Additional Director Abdul Haye Shaikh has formed a team comprising Intelligence Officers Hamid Habib and Shabbir Ahmed to conduct the investigations and determine the urea fertilizer crossed Yaroo Check Post, Shella Bagh Checkpost and Customs staff at the border.
It may be mentioned here that FC personnel have been removed from the borders and now the Army is deployed at the borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
