KARACHI: MCC Appraisement East has lodged an FIR against M/s A.R Industries, M/s Patanwala Traders and others for mis-declaring the description, quantity and value of imported goods in order to evade legitimate government revenue.

Information was passed through Collector Fayyaz Rasool that M/s A.R Industries Karachi with active connivance of clearing agent M/s PatanwaIa Traders and their other associates are attempting to get cleared their goods through mis-declaration.

On the instructions of Additional Collector R&D Afzal Wattoo, the consignment was intercepted by the R&D Section.

The consignment was subjected to re-examination jointly with R&D team. Declared quantities were found changed in almost all the items of the consignment.

The clearing agent concealed certain goods under a tarpal of another container lying nearby the impugned container with the active connivance of shed/port security staff, detected on the basis of evidential SAPT CCTV video.

Accused Rehmat Ali, Mudassar Hussain and Muhammad Adnan were arrested from SAPT port area. It is established that M/s A.R Industries with active connivance of customs agent M/s Patanwala Traders and port security staff mis-declared the description and quantity of goods to evade government revenue to the tune of Rs2.62 million.

An FIR is lodged against the accused and investigations are underway.

It may be mentioned here MCC Appraisement East is the largest collectorate in the country, and given its importance, Collector Fayyaz Rasool has instructed the staff to keep strict vigilance on the imported consignments, while R&D section is advised to strengthen its intelligence network to avoid revenue loss.
