HYDERABAD: On the eve of International Customs Day and to carry out the legacy of destroying confiscated goods of contraband nature in the month of January, the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Hyderabad destroyed contraband goods worth more than Rs. 300 Million.
The following items were destroyed today
1. Betel Nuts 172,980 kg
2. Indian Gutkha 118,002 packet
3. F/o Cigarettes 37,165 dandas
4. Mono sodium Glutamate (Chinese Salt) 24,259 kg
5. Cutch block 2250 kg
These contraband goods are either banned or are unfit for human consumption/health hazard
The destruction ceremony was hosted by Director Customs Intelligence Hyderabad Dr. Sadiqullah Khan accompanied by Additional Director Jamshed Ali Talpur, Deputy Director Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi and staff of the Directorate.
The destruction ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Hyd Mr Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, Wing Commander 73 Wing Sindh Rangers Lt Col Salman Rasheed, President Hyd Small Traders Association and Small Industries Chamber Mr Saleemuddin Qureshi, ASP Hyd Cantt, Assistant Director ANF, Deputy Director ISI, Additional Collector MCC Hyd Ehsan Ali Shah, Director Press Information Deptt, Rep of Environmental Protection Agency, a delegation of Rotary International Hyd chapter, MPA Mr. Abbas Jaffri, members of civil society and a large contingent of Print and Electronic Media.
At the end of ceremony, Shields were presented by Director Customs Intelligence Hyd, Dr Sadiqullah Khan to Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad, Wing Commander 73 Wing Sindh Rangers and President Hyderabad Small Traders Chamber of Commerce. Merit certificates were also presented to the officers and staff of Directorate for their outstanding performance throughout the year.
