KARACHI: MCC JIAP is continuing crackdown on illegal movement of contrabands and commercial goods through the airport and seized miscellaneous goods worth Rs10 million and arrested two passengers for attempting to hoodwink authorities.
On the directives of Collector Irfan-ur-Rehman, Additional Collector Farah Farooq and Deputy Collector Inamullah Wazir have increased the level of vigilance at Jinnah International Airport.
A lady passenger holding Pakistani passport was intercepted upon arrival from Dubai by Emirates flight and recovery of 485.680 grams Gold Jewellery (24 bangles) worth Rs4.8 million was made.
She had concealed the jewellery under her clothes and had initially denied that she was carrying anything dutiable.
Later she disclosed that the gold was given to her by another passenger travelling in the same flight who was the financer and organiser. He was also arrested on the spot.
Both confessed that they had planned to smuggle the jewellery by hoodwinking customs staff. FIR has been lodged after arrest of both the passengers. Further investigations are in progress.
In various other seizures in the last three days dutiable goods including cell phones, electronics, garments and contraband liquor were seized by the customs staff posted at Jinnah International Airport Karachi. Value of the seized goods is approximately 5.5 million.
