KARACHI: Allowing a request made by Federal Government for giving more time to make appointments of Member Judicial & Technical to Special Customs Appellate Tribunal (SCAT).
As the petition was taken up, an Assistant Attorney General appearing for the federal government submitted that appointments/decisions were delayed due to illness of Federal Law Minister (who was diagnosed Covid 19 Positive but has recovered now).
The AAG sought more time so that progress made is communicated to the Court.
The bench allowing the request adjourned further proceedings till mid of January.
The petition was filed by Customs & Sales Tax Practitioners Association maintaining that SCAT has been non-functional due to non-appointment of technical and judicial members.
As result the matters to be fixed before the two member bench or technical bench were being delayed.
The appeals are piling up and now number in thousands at present.
