KARACHI: The Collector of Customs, Adjudication I declared the seizure of cutch (Katha) in huge quantity as illegal and also disposed of the Show Cause Notice.
According to the details, acting on a tip off, a team headed by Deputy Collector, MCC Enforcement & Compliance raided Akbar Godown in S.I.T.E Karachi on 30-4-2020.
The customs found 470 wooden boxes containing the alleged non duty paid smuggled item. The alleged goods were seized and a FIR was lodged in which it was stated that no one was present at the place of raid nor any-one came forward to claim the ownership of the alleged goods.
However the department claimed that Chowkidar was served with a Notice under section 163 of the Customs Act 1969 and that one Muhammad Izhar also produced the GD pertaining to two imported consignment.
The adjudicating collector noticing all anomalies and facts held that accused Muhammad Izhar is a regular importer having NTN. It was also found that seizure report suffers from legal infirmities and department failed to establish the allegations levelled in the Show Cause Notice which was then disposed of while seizure report was declared illegal.
