KARACHI: The release of a consignment of old. Used automotive parts was ordered by a custom appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar and Justice Agha Faisal.

The bench was hearing a constitution petition filed by M.A. International against detention, confiscation of imported consignment of old and used automobile parts by the Directorate of I&I, Pakistan Customs. The department detained the consignment on allegation that new parts were de-stuffed in the container at Bismillah Godown in connivance with Badruddin Yard, Keamari.

Nadeem Qureshi, former Member Judicial of Special Customs Appellate Tribunal who returned to active practice represented the petitioner importer. The petition challenges three show cause notices issued to the petitioner.

The bench while perusing the show cause notice said the petitioner should have come to the court earlier.

The bench also heard Yaqoob Mako, Director I&I who appeared on court’s notice. The Director told the bench that he has gone through the facts and papers of the case. He candidly admitted the irregularity on the part of an officer of the DIT and said departmental action will be taken accordingly.

The bench appreciated the approach of the Director I&I and said officers like him are an asset for the department and that honest and vigilant officers are rarely seen posted at such important positions.

The bench while disposing of the petition ordering release of the consignment asked the Director I&I to take the departmental action to logical end.
