KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has submitted an interim Challan before the Court that Jaisa Raam, Hafiz Nazar and their other associates are involved in smuggling and dumping of smuggled as well as contraband goods, and further distribution thereof.

According to details there was specific information that huge quantity of Indian origin Gutkha and foreign origin smuggled Betel Nuts were dumped in two different places/godowns namely Goth Kando Than Mahar and Noor Muhammad Mangrio Goth in District Umerkot.

In pursuance of information, a team of (ASO) Wing of the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs), Regional Office, Hyderabad under the supervision of Deputy Director with the assistance of 93 Wing Sindh Rangers and Local Police proceeded to District Umerkot and raided the godowns, and found huge quantity of smuggled contraband goods stored in the premises.

There was no person found in the premises of the godowns. Since the information was authentic and the found goods were banned and injurious to health, therefore, the team of ASO took over the possession of the recovered goods into custody.

Two members of the team were sent to Umerkot city for arrangement of the transport to shift the recovered goods from the premises to the office of the Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation (Customs) Hyderabad.

Customs I&I mentions in the Challan that the recovered smuggled and contraband goods are banned, smuggled and brought into the Country through unauthorized routes.

During the investigation, it is transpired that culprits and accomplices namely Jaisa Raam S/o Ghumshan and Hafiz Nazar S/o Noor Muhammad along with owners of the premises situated at Goth Kando Khan Mahar, District Umarkot and Noor Muhammad Mangrio Goth District Umarkot where from contraband goods was recovered and other associates are involved in the crime who are operating an organized racket of smuggling of Betel Nuts and Indian Gutkha.

Accused Hafiz Nazar used to supply the contraband goods to Jaisa Raam for further illegal disposal in the area. In order to arrest the absconding accused persons, this Directorate is making hectic efforts and has also requested to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, District Mirpurkhas for assistance in the arrest of the nominated accused.
