SUKKUR: Regional Tax Office (RTO) Sukkur has posted an unprecedented growth of 60 percent in revenue collection for September, owing to opening up of economic activities in the area and due to massive efforts made by the team of dedicated officers led by its chief commissioner Hyder Ali Dharejo.
RTO Sukkur has vast jurisdiction spreading over civil districts of Sukkur and Larkana divisions. The main business activities of the people are comprised of trading and agro based industries.
Sources in the tax office said its revenue collection surged to Rs1350 millions in September 2020, compared to 811 millions in the same month of the last year despite acute shortage of officers and the fact that major revenue yielding cases of RTO Sukkur have been transferred to LTU Karachi.
The sources said significant growth in revenue collection was due to post – COVID-19 opening up of bazaars and markets, strict monitoring of collection of withholding taxes, effective risk based audit of potential revenue yielding cases and persistent recovery drive out of demanded taxes.
The sources said that increase in revenue was also partly due to fact that Sukkur is mainly cotton growing areas and activities in cotton market has recently picked up considerably . In this connection, Chief Commissioner Mr. Hyder Ali Dharejo hold meeting in his office with members of Sukkur Chamber and cotton ginners association of Sukkur and requested them for tax payments in timely manner.
The sources further said keeping in view the location and business activities, Sukkur RTO has huge potential to become the leading tax collecting unit of the country.
