QUETTA: Customs Preventive Quetta has seized 15 tons of betel nut, which was being transported in the garb of onion.
Information was passed through collector Preventive Irfan Javed regarding transportation of smuggled betel nut into the interior country. He advised Additional Collector and Deputy Collector to tighten vigilance.
Subsequently, a truck coming from Quetta to Karachi was intercepted at Lakpas Check Post. Upon checking, 15 tons of betel nut was found hidden under onions. The value of the seized goods is Rs30 million.
It may be mentioned here Lakpas is a very busy checkpost on route to Karachi from Quetta, and hundreds of vehicles carrying food items cross through the check post every day.
Superintendent Aslam Khan and Inspector ahmed Nawaz Zehri has made this second successful operation within few days.
