QUETTA: Customs Quetta recovered 20 tons betel nuts worth Rs55 million from a exploded liquefied petroleum LPG Bowzer at lakpass Custom Check post near Quetta.

A credible information was received through Collector Customs MCC, (E&C), Quetta Irfan Jawaid which was communicated through the Additional Collector Yasir Kulwar to Deputy Collector Mr. Akbar Jan regarding presence of smuggled betel nut loaded at LPG bowser.

DC formed a team headed by superintendent Aslam Khan and Inspector Ahmed Nawaz Zehri. In this regard the customs check post Lakpass intercepted LPG Bowser coming from Quetta towards inside country . After proper checking the said LPG bowser was found loaded with betel nuts. During checking driver of the said bowser fled away from scene and disappeared taking the advantage of darkness. The custom staff took the possession of the said vehicle and seized the foreign origin smuggled goods along with said vehicle .

Remember during the month of February of current year Customs Quetta in a joint operation with Police recovered 12 tons betel nuts from a exploded liquefied petroleum LPG tanker inside a warehouse at western bypass of Quetta. As many as six workers were killed in this explosion.

Due to strict vigilance policy by Custom authorities, smugglers are using numerous dangerous ways to shift their smuggled items in to the country. Chief collector appreciated the quick response of the staff.
