KARACHI: Anti-smuggling Organization (ASO) of MCC Preventive Karachi conducted a raid on Yusuf Plaza in Bolton Market and recovered large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs40 million.
On the directives of Chief Collector Enforcement Saifuddin Junejo, Collector Preventive Saquif Saeed has expedited the anti-smuggling drive and raids are constantly being conducted at the warehouses and markets housing smuggled goods,
Information was passed through Collector Saquif Saeed to Additional Collector Haroon Waqar Malik and Deputy collector Muhammad Asim Awan regarding presence of smuggled goods at Yusuf Plaza in Bolton market. A team headed by Superintendent ASO Iftikhar Hasan was formed to raid the market.
Subsequently, large quantity of foreign origin cigarettes, cigars, Indian gutka and cosmetics were recovered. Further investigations are underway.
Yusuf Plaza is a primary dumping ground of smuggled goods and this is the first time such a raid was conducted on Yusuf Plaza.
An official said the senior officers were under extreme pressure to transfer the ASO team, however Chief Collector Enforcement and Collector Preventive are convinced to continue with the current ASO team, which has been performing efficiently and effectively.
