KARACHI: Customs Quetta in a joint operation with Police recovered 12 tons betel nuts from a exploded liquefied petroleum LPG tanker inside a warehouse at western bypass of Quetta. As many as six workers were killed in this explosion.
Information was passed through Additional Collector Yasir Kulwar regarding presence of smuggled betel nut at a warehouse. Deputy Collector Akbar Jan formed a team headed by Inspector Jameel Kakar to raid the warehouse.
Certain unscrupulous elements were loading betel nuts in an LPG container with an intention to distribute the smuggled goods into other parts of the country. However, the LPG tanker exploded killing 6 workers.
Customs and Police reached the spot and recovered 400 hundred parcels carrying 12000 kilo grams of betel nut.
Due to strict vigilance policy by Custom authorities, smugglers are using numerous dangerous ways to shift their smuggled items in to the country. Chief collector appreciated the quick response of the staff.
