KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Friday fixed Dec 17 to hear a petition challenging re-assessment of Goods Declaration already assessed under section 80 of the Customs Act 1969.

Earlier, Rayan Zia advocate appearing for the petitioner Kami Corporation submitted that it imports desktop and laptop computers. He submitted that the GDs of their goods were duly assessed under section 80 of the Customs Act 1969 but were subjected to re-assessment by the Post Clearance Audit directorate without jurisdiction.

The GD’s once assessed can be re-assessed only resorting to Sec 32 and 179 of the Customs Act 1969 and this issue has been directed in a number of petitions by the High Court. The counsel also placed copies of such orders on record.

The bench later ordered issuance of pre-admission notices to the respondents including PCA for Dec 17 besides notice to Attorney General.
