KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mahmood A Khan on Thursday sought comments from department in a petition filed by Naeem & Sons represented by Sardar Muhammad Ishaq Advocate.

According to details, the petitioner imported food flavour and filed a GD declaring value at US $ 25,000 but the customs assessed the same at US $ 88,000 approximately. The petitioner/importer paid differential amount through pay orders after which GD was processed under section 81 of the Customs Act 1969 but the same was not finalized in 6 months under section 81(2). The customs encashed the security of rupees 311000 approximately without final assessment which is illegal harassment.

The bench after initial hearing ordered the respondents to file comments by Dec 20.
