QUETTA: Customs Quetta has seized large quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs80 million in an operation at Saranan in Pishin area.

Information was received through Chief Collector Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Chaudry that certain elements had gathered in Saranan and attempt would be made to transport smuggled goods.

Subsequently, Collector Preventive Iftikhar Ahmed coordinated with FC, police and local administration to conduct a fool proof operation. Moreover, Additional Collector Jameel Baloch, Deputy Collector Preventive Yasir Kalhwar, Assistant Collectors Rana Umair and Saleem Tahir monitored the operation.

Superintendents Yunus Ata, Saleem Agha, Inspector Shahzad Akhtar and other staff along with FC and Police intercepted the suspected smugglers and seized three buses and one truck loaded with smuggled goods including tyres, cloth, blankets etc worth Rs80 million.

An official said that Customs Baluchistan was severely short of resources and was dependent on FC for enforcement activities. While, FC due to its other engagements couldn’t offer much assistance, otherwise smuggling would be eradicated.
