KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan on Monday issued notice to Pakistan Customs, Preventive for June 12 in a petition filed by United Chemicals Company.

The company imported two containers of Monosodium glutamate (Ajinomoto) but the customs denied release on ground that under an order passed by Supreme Court of Pakistan, the item is banned due to its negative impact on human health.

The counsel for petitioner submitted that the consignment was imported prior to the order passed by the apex court and it was in fact ware-housed. It was further contended thatĀ  import made prior to the ban placedĀ  by the apex court cannot be detained enforcing the order/judgment retrospectively.

The bench after brief hearing while ordering issuance of notices to the respondents also ordered Pakistan Customs to consider the application of the petitioner for release of consignment strictly in accordance with law.
