KARACHI: The detention of consignment on verbal orders of Deputy Collector R&D was disapproved by a customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh here Thursday.

The bench heard petition filed by Hafeez Traders, importer of chemicals through law firm Franklin Law Associates. A counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the consignment was duly examined, assessed and after completion of all formalities it was allowed “gate out”. The consignment was however detained at the terminal and petitioner was told that DC R&D verbally asked them to put the consignment on hold. Seven days have passed by the consignment is not being released for mala fide intentions, the counsel submitted.

The bench after detailed hearing ordered release of the consignment restraining the respondent R&D from any further action and also sought compliance report by May 27.
