KARACHI: Collector MCC Port Qasim Chaudry Jawaid has ordered examination of unclaimed containers lying at the terminal including those for which Goods Declaration (GD) have not been filed as well as those marked for auction to check smuggling of contraband goods.

It may be mentioned here that information was passed to Additional Collector Khalil Yousufani about the presence of banned items in containers lying at terminal.

Examination of suspected unclaimed containers by Appraising Officer Taha Sher under the supervision of Deputy Collector Amjad Lagari,  led to recovery of betel nut from a container.

This container was loaded from Indonesia with declared description of shampoo base. But out of total 160 drums weighing 25 MT betel nuts were found in 140 drums sealed exactly like shampoo base drums. The approximate quantity of betel nuts is 20 MT with market value of Rs14.5 million.
