KARACHI: The Directorate General of Training and Research has embarked upon a tangible, meaningful and productive venture of expanding the accommodation facilities for not only the Assistant Collectors (under training) of future batches but also for the serving junior/ senior officers of Customs in Karachi.

The very concept and initiative of expansion will take place within the premises of Customs House, Karachi under the personal supervision of Director Irfan Javed.

At present there are 15 rooms at the onsite hostel building (ground plus three floors) within the DGTR, Custom House Karachi. These rooms are being shared by the existing batch of 26 under training officers.

However, in October 2018, the DGTR got prepared a PC-1 through Pak PWD and forwarded the same to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This will provide additional five floors to the existing structure. The original plan of the hostel building allows for construction of ground+8 floors.

As per the proposed plan 25 new, modern, fully furnished, air-conditioned and well-equipped suites will be added to the hostel. Regular mess staff on 24 hours running basis is also being hired accordingly.

These suites are meant for transit and time-bound accommodation for single male/female serving officers, visiting officers, guest speakers and others as per the requirements.

This will also share the accommodation burden with the Preventive mess at the Lalazar housing scheme. It will also enhance the quality living/ lodging for Customs officers in the modem lodging facility.
