KARACHI: Customs Preventive Karachi has launched a drive against flavored tobacco, which is a part of larger campaign against all sorts of drugs and narcotics.
In compliance with directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Anti-smuggling organization (ASO) Preventive, Karachi conducted two operations at Dansow Hall and Empress Market Saddar, Karachi, against ban flavored tobacco (Sheesha) causing cancer among youth and successfully recovered 207 packets Seesha (129.5 Kgs), flavored charcoals etc from sale outlets/markets worth Rs249,000.
The enforcement drive against Seesha and its ingredients will continue to uproot this menace from the city, an official said.
Deputy Collector Muhammad Faisal is personally supervising the enforcement drive.
Customs is keeping strict vigilance on the import and smuggling of narcotics and liquor including ahead of new year celebrations.
Last week, Customs staff at Karachi airport seized large quantity of Cocaine.
An official said huge quantity of drugs and alcohol was illegally imported or smuggled into the country in December every year, as demand for narcotics and liquor multiplied on new year.
Deputy Collector Wasif Malik has tightened vigilance at Karachi airport to foil any attempt of importing the contraband goods particularly Cocaine, which seems to be gaining foothold in the country.
