KARACHI: The Anti-smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Preventive Karachi raised warehouses in Yousuf Goth and recovered large quantity of smuggled goods.

Collector Preventive Dr. Iftikhar had information about the presence of smuggled goods in Karachi and assigned Additional Collector Aamir Theim to conduct an operation. A team headed by Deputy Collector Mohammad Faisal along with large contingent of Rangers raided the warehouses in Yousuf Goth near Hub Chowki and recovered large quantity of smuggled goods including Indian gutka, cigarette, cloth, tyres worth over Rs800 million.

However, a law & order situation was created at the spot as hundreds of people gathered there. The mob also removed some of the seized goods from the vehicles of Customs.

Customs sources said the inventory list had not been prepared so far, but they declined to comment about the law & order situation and loss of the seized goods.

It may be mentioned here that Customs Intelligence & Investigation had been ignoring rather patronizing the smuggling in the last four years.
