KARACHI: A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Mrs Ashraf Jahan on Wednesday heard the reply of petitioners/importers of betel nuts.

The counsel for petitioners in six identical petitions including leading case filed by Bilqis Bano, submitted that report is silent about harmful components.

The counsel for respondent Pakistan Customs rebutted and said the consignments/items in dispute contains cancerous elements up to 80-90 per cent which makes it unfit for human consumptions.

The bench after detailed hearing held that only experts could educate the court about laboratory report.

The bench then summoned experts from both the petitioner as well as respondent side to finally decide the controversy.

More than 20 consignments are stuck up at Karachi port as custom authorities refused to release the same on ground that these are unfit for human consumption.
