KARACHI: A customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Friday disposed of a petition filed by Shiza Food Industries allowing exemption on different kitchen items.

The petitioner company challenged the Customs decision to disallow exemption of Sales Tax which they were enjoying since 20 years.

The custom officials, respondents in the case submitted that other importers are not claiming the exemption and for this reason, authorities decided to discontinue the same.

The counsel representing Franklin Law Associates which filed the case on behalf of the petitioner submitted that the petitioner is a commercial importer and falls within the category of “industrial user” and claims the exemption irrespective of other importers.

The bench after hearing the arguments in detail from the sides ordered release of the items while allowing exemption.
