KARACHI: Hearing two separate but identical petitions, a Customs appellate bench of High Court of Sindh ordered release of 39 construction vehicles including dumpers, mixer trucks and others.

The bench earlier heard Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate, counsel for petitioner and counsel representing the customs department. The vehicles were detained for being imported in violation of para 9 of the Import Policy Order (IPO) 2013.

The counsel for petitioner submitted that besides suffering from heavy demurrage, petitioner Ehsanullah was sustaining losses due to hampered construction activity.

The bench as an interim measure ordered that 23 out of 47 and 16 out of 27 vehicles be released on depositing value of vehicles with the Nazir of the SHC besides paying duty and taxes with customs department.
