KARACHI: Doubting a report of Steel Committee formed by Pakistan Customs to examine a consignment of steel sheets imported by Reliance Corporation, a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial ordered release of the consignment.
The bench returned the report after a lawyer from Franklin Law Associates challenged the genuineness of the report and said name of the third member of the committee was not the same as mentioned in the letter under which the committee was constituted.
Earlier the respondent collectorate submitted a report by a Steel Committee constituted to examine the nature/type of the sheets. Two members declared the consignment to be of “Secondary” nature while one member held that sheets in question are of “primary” type.
Perusing the report, the counsel for the petitioner pointed out the anamoly in respect of name of a member after which the bench returned the report with the direction to the petitioner side to file written objection if any and put off further proceedings indefinitely while ordering release of the consignment. The amount in dispute of type/nature comes to around 0.5 million only.
