KARACHI: Customs Intelligence Quetta has seized auto parts scrap and iron & steel remeltable scrap, which had been cleared through the Chaman station by mis-declaring the description of goods depriving the exchequer of its legitimate revenue.
Information was received through Director Customs Intelligence & Investigation, Quetta Irfan Javed, acting on which staff of the Directorate including Deputy Director Abdul Mueed, Superintendent Fareed-ud-Din, Intelligence Officers Mohammad Hanif, Mehtab Ahmed and Saima Wahid etc. intercepted a Hino Truck apparently loaded with the Iron & Steel scrap as per GD presented by the driver on the spot at Quetta Chaman Road.
The goods were imported by M/s A.M Steel Furnace and got cleared by M/s Abdul Ali & Brothers. On cursory checking the loaded truck was found to contain suspicious goods, therefore it was detained.
Detailed examination and weighment found certain discrepancies. AS per the GD the goods were iron & steel remeltable scrap weighing 38.86 tons while the the goods were found to be auto parts scrap and iron/steel remeltable scrap weighing in total to be 42.59 tons.
Subsequently, it was established the importer and clearing agent hoodwinked the customs staff at Chamman station and attempted to deprive the national exchequer by way of misdeclaration of description and quantity of goods.
The value of the seized goods is Rs1.6 million while the value of the truck is Rs3.0 million. the duty/taxes involved are calculated at Rs0.8 million approximately.
