KARACHI: A Customs Appellate bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Jsutice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omar Sial on Friday ordered release of two prime movers on payment of duty and taxes with Customs Collecotorate of Appraisement.

The bench hearing two identical petitions filed by Bitumin Construction Company ordered the petitioner to submit surety equivalent to the value of the vehicles with Nazir of the court.

The custom authorities while passing an Order In Original has confiscated the vehicles on ground that the same were imported in violation of Import Policy Order 2016 as the model is older than the one permited.

Earlier Ms Dil Khurram Shaheen advocate counsel for the petitioner company submitted that confiscated vehicles are covered under the model description envisaged in IPO 2016. She also produced letter of PSI certification and letter from Pakistan Engineering Council regarding importability of the vehicles in dispute. She maintained that delay in release of the vehicles would badly affect the construction activities of the importer company.

The bench as an interim arrangement ordered release of the prime movers against payment of duty and taxes as well as surety.
