KARACHI: Pakistan Customs submitted a compliance report before High Court of Sindh here Tuesday in petitions filed by M/s Shazak Multinational and Ors, importers of toilet soap.

A division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Yousuf Ali Saeed was informed that in compliance of its order passed on a previous date of hearing the consignments in dispute have been released.

The bench earlier on a previous expressed disappointment and anger over delay in release of detained consignments after Hyder Shaikh advocate of Franklin Law Associates informed the bench that custom officials have not yet released the consignments despite order of the court.

The non-compliance of the order was in derogation of dicta laid down by the High Court as in dozens of constitutional petitions filed and decided earlier by SHC, such consignments were also ordered to be released.

Despite reference to identical cases and seeking similar treatment, custom officials were asked to release the consignments imported on the basis of Bill of Landing, they are engineering a delay, the counsel has submitted. The petition abated in view of the compliance report.
